Deux Cantous

Our Air Canada flight was uneventful and we arrived safely.  We can confirm, however, that the quality of the airline food has not improved.  Thank goodness we had purchased some huge submarines prior to boarding to see us through our journey.

We picked up our leased Peugeot and made our way to the Marriott for a 24-hour stop to adjust to jet-lag.  That was a good idea.

We left for La Roche Canillac at 8:30 am the next morning, estimating a 5 hour drive.  With the stops to stretch and eat and refuel, we arrived at our destination at 4:00 pm.

Our hostess was actually on the street when we arrived, heading out to the festivities, so she greeted us warmly and took time to show us our "home away from home".

The living room is large and welcoming, with a wood burning stove for cold evenings, and a library full of French and English books that will perfectly suit those cold evenings.  Today, however, the weather is anything but cold, hovering in the low 30's.

The dining table can easily seat 8, but we're using one end as our dining table and the other as a makeshift office with our laptops.

The house is called "Deux Cantous", taking its name from the traditional Correzien cantou (inglenook fireplace), in the kitchen.

The kitchen is what first caught my attention when looking for a rental home.  Who could resist a 5-burner gas range!

Most of the appliances are hidden from view, with the fridge, freezer and dishwasher all behind cabinetry.  All the dishes and dry goods are in drawers, in the lower as well.

The master bedroom has an antique queen-size bed with the most beautiful lace trim on the linen!  (I pulled back the bedspread so you could see the wide lace.)

Our hostess is an artist and two of her paintings with an oriental theme brighten up the room.

A door leads to the garden directly from the bedroom.  We have lots of closet space for both of us.

The ensuite bathroom is bright, updated and spa-like.  There are Le Petit Marseillais bars of soap everywhere! Could our hostess have read my blog?  She certainly has excellent taste!

We are about to leave the main floor and head for upstairs.  The front door is the one with all the brilliant sunshine pouring through.  Oh yes, there's a half bath to the right of the TV.

Very handy, but pretty as well with a continuation of the oriental theme.  And a chandelier, no less!

That covers the main floor.  Now we head for the upstairs, although this photo is taken looking down the stairs.  A trio of assorted pieces liven the nook tucked under the stairs.

The first bedroom is perfect for a baby and small child.

Fan definitely needed on a sweltering day!

The second bedroom, with its double size bed, is more suitable for a couple.

The bathroom is lovely.  Shorter people will negotiate the slanted ceiling better than tall ones!

I hope you enjoyed the tour of our new home.  It will be delightful to stay in this artistically decorated home which is large, well appointed, and spotlessly clean.  We chose well!

Photos of the exterior and the guest house still to come.
