Auberge de Forgès

A beautiful day with 33 degree weather, touching 36 in mid-afternoon.  People are saying that this has been exceptional weather.  It never really gets this hot here, at least not for so long.  Yet it hovered around 40 degrees for a whole week, making people reconsider their lack of A/C.   They wonder if it's a new trend.

Look at the tree in the back yard.  It looks glorious with its dark rose coloured blooms, shaped like a lilac.

A perfect day to go exploring.  We stopped in Forgès and found a quaint little Auberge where we stopped for lunch.  It had 4 or 5 tables in the back, on a deck covered with vines.  Excellent shade on such a day!

Karl covers his glass to prevent another bug from flying into his Heineken.  After all, he's ordered enough protein for this meal!

I've decided to stick with an Orangina in this heat.

Karl starts with smoked ham and salad.

I start with the salmon terrine and it is awesome!  Strata layers of salmon mousse and "persillade".  Persillade is a sauce or seasoning mixture of parsley chopped together with seasonings including garlic, herbs, oil, and vinegar.  The strata is covered  in gelatine.  This salmon terrine is not only delicious, but beautiful as well.

I try the poulet confit with ratatouille, scalloped potatoes and salad.  Confit means it's been preserved, so "chicken in a can".   It's actually very tender, very tasty.

Karl tries the baked ham for his main course, so a complete piggy meal.

Dessert is a crème brûlée, done to perfection.

So for those readers waiting for more "food photos", your wish has been granted.
